2008 Beijing Olympics Results: Michael Phelps Inches Way to Gold in Men’s 100m Butterfly
Everything has gone right for American swimmer Michael Phelps at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and on Friday night the most decorated Olympic athlete of all time added another gold to his haul after winning the men’s 100m butterfly by the narrowest of margins.
Phelps, trying to become the first athlete to win eight gold medals at a single Olympics, touched the wall in 50.58 for a new Olympic record but Serbia’s Milorad Cavic gave him all he could handle finishing in 50.59 to take silver.
Andrew Lauterstein of Australia finished in 51.12 to claim bronze.
