2008 Beijing Olympics Results: Men’s Soccer Stage Set as Brazil and Argentina Net Winners in Overtime

The men’s soccer stage is set for medal contention and all but one of the major powers survived action on Saturday to advance to the semifinals.

Brazil needed overtime to net a pair of goals and beat Cameroon on Saturday. Augusto Rafael Sobis scored in the 101st minute and Junior Vieira da Silva Marcelo scored four minutes later for the 2-0 victory.

The Brazilians will now face Argentina who needed overtime as well to get past the Netherlands 2-1. Angel Di Maria provided the winner in the 105th minute.

In the shocker of the day Belgium knocked off Italy 3-2. Giuseppe Rossi scored on a pair of penalty kicks for Italy but Moussa Dembele netted the winner for Belgium in the 79th minute.

The Belgians will now face Nigeria who had little trouble against the Ivory Coast, beating their African neighbor 2-0 to advance to the semifinals. Peter Osaze Odemwingie scored in the 44th minute and Victor Nsofor Obinna sealed it on a penalty kick in the 81st minute.
