American javelin thrower Greer inducted onto USA Olympic squad

USA javelin thrower Breaux Greer is heading to the Beijing Olympics without having placed in the top three at the USA track and field Olympic trials, according to a report on the official website of the USA Track & Field.

Greer, an eight-time USA national champion, injured his right shoulder at the 2007 World Championships last August in Osaka, Japan, according to the official website of the 2007 Athletic World Championships. The severe injury prevented him from participating in any event during the first half of 2008, according to the official website of USA Track & Field. In order to seize a spot at the Beijing Olympics, the 31-year-old athlete made up his mind to compete in USA track and field Olympic trials.

Greer has taken part in the last two Olympics, but has failed to win any medals so far.

Greer was quoted on the official website of The News Star, a newspaper based in Monroe, Louisiana, as saying his injuries are likely to heal by the time he reaches the Chinese capital next month.

Greer will compete on the USA squad at the Summer Olympics javelin event with teammates Mike Hazle and Leigh Smith, who led at the qualifying trials, according to the USA Track & Field site.
