WADA rejects FIFA call for testing break

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – The head of the World Anti-Doping Agency has rejected calls for athletes to be given a break from out-of-competition testing during holidays.

WADA president John Fahey says there will be no changes to the whereabouts testing rule in the short term.

Fahey says FIFA and UEFA's suggestion to give athletes a holiday break from testing would undermine anti-doping controls and give cheats time to start doping with impunity.

He sees no chance for immediate change in the disputed rules, which came into effect Jan. 1. Athletes must give drug testers three months' notice of their location for one hour each day.

Fahey suggests it might take a year to push through any reforms, if necessary.

Fahey spoke to reporters Tuesday before leaving for Germany and Spain.
