‘SUPERSTAR’ MARK FOSTER COMPETES ON CHANNEL 5 SPORTS SHOW ON FRIDAY

Five time Olympian Mark Foster will appear on Channel five’s Superstars TV show under the guidance of his blue team captain, Rugby World Cup winner Mike Catt, MBE. On the same team as Foster are former Great Britain and England rugby league and rugby union player Martin Offiah, MBE and female boxer Jane Crouch.

Superstars was first aired on the BBC in 1973 when Foster was only three years old. The show returned to the BBC in 2002 with a one-off special for Sport Relief, with England rugby union star Austin Healey the winner. Du'aine Ladejo (athletics) won the 2004 events, with Alain Baxter (skiing) winning in 2005.

Five will air eight one hour-long shows, broadcast on Fridays at 8pm. This year competitors have been split into four teams, captained by Sir Steve Redgrave, MBE (white team), Dame Kelly Holmes (red team), Roger Black, MBE (yellow team) and Mike Catt, MBE (blue team).

Foster’s competitors include ex-swimmer Karen Pickering, previous series winner Alain Baxter (skiing), Roberto di Matteo (football) with former Premier League referee Graham Poll overseeing the competition.

Friday 25th July will be the third show in the series and will see Roger Black’s yellow team compete against Mike Catt’s blue team, including Foster, over a series of events including scaling an indoor climbing wall, team tug-of-war, as well as the old favourites, dips and squat thrusts. A new event this year is diving. Last week Britain’s diving star Tom Daley made a guest appearance judging the ‘Superstars’ dives as well as performing a display dive to show the ‘Superstars’ how it should be done.
