Mikitenko defends London Marathon title

Defending champion Irina Mikitenko of Germany won the women's race in the London Marathon here on Sunday in a time of two hours 22 minutes 11 seconds.

Together with Mara Yamauchi, she broke clear from the rest of the elite field before dropping the Briton in the closing stages and going on to win by over a minute.

Yamauchi finished in 2:23:12, well clear of Russia's Liliya Shobukova, who was third in 2:24:24.
