Suwon Bluewings beat Galaxy for Pan-Pacific title

CARSON, Calif. – Suwon Bluewings of South Korea won the Pan-Pacific tournament championship with a 4-2 victory in penalty kicks over the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday night.

Suwon's Eduardo de Oliveira, Yang Sang-Min, Lee Gil-Hoon and Choi Sung-Hwan made their penalty kicks after the teams tied at 1 in regulation. Chris Klein and Mike Magee converted for Los Angeles.

Oita Trinita of Japan took third place earlier Saturday with a 2-1 victory over China's Shandong Luneng.

The Galaxy's Edson Buddle missed over the crossbar and Suwon goalkeeper Park Ho-Jin dived to his right to deflect Kyle Patterson's penalty kick with his right hand.

Suwon took a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute of regulation when the Galaxy's Sean Franklin headed the ball into his own net. Magee tied it in the 89th minute on a penalty kick.

Earlier Saturday, Daiki Takamatsu and Ueslei scored to give Oita Trinita the victory in the third-place game.

Takamatsu put Oita Trinta ahead 1-0 in the 27th minute, two minutes after Shandong Luneng's Aleksandar Zivkovic received a red card for a rough tackle on Shingo Suzuki.

Mu Kanazaki chipped a ball from the left flank to Takamatzu, who beat defender Yuan Weiwei and placed an 11-yard shot between goalkeeper Li Leilei and the left post.

Ueslei extended the lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute with a bouncing 10-yard header off Kanazaki's right-wing cross.

Shandong's Milijan Mrdakovic coverted a penalty kick in the 45th minute and had a chance to tie it in the 68th, but his diving 7-yard header went just wide of the right post.
