Canadian women's soccer team wins Olympic tune-up
The Canadian women's soccer team shut out Singapore 8-0 in an international friendly match on Sunday, their final tune-up before the Olympic Games.
Jodi-Ann Robinson, Clare Rustad and Brittany Timko scored two goals apiece, with Randee Hermus and Kristina Kiss adding the others.
The Canadians had already built up a 4-0 lead after the first half. Hermus put the squad on the board in the fourth minute off of a corner kick by Kiss. Robinson found the back of the net in the 12th minute after a pass from Melissa Tancredi.
Five minutes later the duo connected again, putting Team Canada up 3-0.
Timko took a ball from Amy Vermeulen in the 33rd to give the team a 4-0 advantage at the half.
Stephanie Labbe made her first senior international appearance, replacing starter Karina LeBlanc in net in the 55th minute.
Two minutes later, Rustad capitalized on a scramble with a goal, as did Kiss in the 73rd.
Rustad scored her second of the game off a Kiss corner kick before Timko rounded out the scoring in the 84th.
The Canadian squad tied New Zealand 1-1 on Saturday.
